Zuni Whitmore Panel Stabilization
Protecting Zuni tribal heritage in the canyon.
The Whitmore Rock Art panel located on River Mile 188 on the Colorado River is a tribally significant location to the Pueblo of Zuni, depicting the emergence of the Zuni into this (the fourth) world. For Zuni, this archaeological site continues to maintain life and spiritual forces of great importance. River runners often stop at the Whitmore panel as they head downstream.
This project was completed in 2014. Grand Canyon Conservancy supporter donations helped preserve the rock art panel through the repair of a wall protecting the site from visitor impact and erosion. Together, we are honoring the future by protecting the past.
