Sunset Photography Tour

Join our instructors for a relaxed, family-friendly 3-hour program at the South Rim! Discover the magic of sunset with guided insights into the ancient rocks and history of the canyon, while learning photography tips on how to capture this magnificent landscape. This Field Institute program offers a unique and enriching experience for all.

Details

We will visit several overlooks, including Trail View Overlook, Maricopa Point, and Powell Point. Our expert instructors will teach you how to take beautiful photos with your cell phone or camera. In addition to learning about geology, flora, and fauna. The total mileage for the day will be under 4 miles. Your day will end shortly after sunset with a star-filled night sky.

Meet Location: Bright Angel Trailhead 

End location: Bright Angel Trailhead

Don't forget to bring: 

  • A camera or smartphone
  • Comfortable, athletic or hiking shoes with GOOD tread
  • 1 liter of water per person (33 ounces = 1 liter) 
  • Comfortable backpack to hold: snacks, water, and other items (please don't forget SNACKS!) 
  • Spare warm clothing: hats, jackets, and gloves
  • A flashlight to help you walk back in the dark, preferably with a red light. 

Additional information

Meet at Bright Angel Trailhead. Meeting times will vary on season and month. From there, we will walk along the Rim Trail, stopping at overlooks as we hike along the trail. While the trail is paved there is a steep hill and staircases along the route. This activity is family-friendly! 

What does the price include? Our expert instructor and tripod. 

What is not included? Your camera or phone, water & food, transportation to and from the meet location, lodging, and guide gratuity.
