Astronomer in Residence

Deep Time in Earth and Sky

Just as Grand Canyon rocks have a wide range of ages stretching back almost 2 billion years, stars in the night sky have ages from a few million to many billions of years. Learn the ages of prominently visible stars that are as old as particular Grand Canyon rock formations and discover how scientists estimate ages for both rocks and stars. A guided night sky talk will point out bright stars and discuss their properties together with the conditions in which Grand Canyon rocks of the same age were formed.
