GCC Establishes New Endowment to Support Indigenous Programs

The Ann and Vincent Figueredo Endowed Fund

This newly established Fund will provide enduring support for programs dedicated to celebrating and preserving the cultural heritage and voices of Grand Canyon’s first people—the 11 tribal communities who have lived in and stewarded the canyon since time immemorial. 

“The Ann and Vincent Figueredo Endowed Fund will enrich the experience of Grand Canyon visitors by deepening their understanding of the canyon’s cultural significance and the enduring relationship between the tribes and the land,” said Bonnie Baker, Chief Philanthropy Officer at GCC. “We are inspired by Ann and Vincent’s vision and generosity, which will uplift Indigenous voices and foster greater recognition of their history, stories, and contributions within the park.”

The endowment will support Indigenous-led initiatives, educational programs, and staffing by members of the 11 associated tribes or National Park Service employees involved in Indigenous programming. By bolstering these programs, the Fund ensures that future generations of park visitors gain a richer perspective on the canyon’s cultural heritage and an appreciation of the ongoing contributions of tribal communities.

“Grand Canyon National Park is committed to Indigenous first-voice interpretation, and thanks to Ann and Vincent Figueredo’s meaningful investment, this Fund will empower the park to share these stories and celebrate the deep connections the tribes maintain with this land,” said Ed Keable, Superintendent of Grand Canyon National Park. “Their generosity allows us to ensure that these important cultural narratives remain an integral part of the Grand Canyon experience.”
