Community
Lecture Series
GCFI and its parent organization
Grand Canyon Association, in partnership with
Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff and the
Sharlot Hall Museum in Prescott, recently launched
the Canyon Country Community Lecture Series. The
goal of this series is to take the rich interpretive
themes of Grand Canyon National Park and the region
directly to enthusiasts in nearby communities.
Speakers include authorities on the rich natural
and cultural history of Grand Canyon and the Colorado
Plateau.

Service-Based Classes
As partners of the National Park
Service at Grand Canyon National Park, GCFI has
organized and/or hosted a variety of service-based
classes and events including archaeological surveys,
habitat restoration projects, training
seminars for guides, and symposia. One of our more popular
annual events is the Hands-On Archaeology class,
which is conducted in partnership with the NPS
Science Center. Participants assist resource managers
in conducting a baseline survey of cultural resources
including ancestral Puebloan and pioneer-vintage
artifacts.
Volunteer Opportunities
A chronic shortage of housing
for employees at Grand Canyon National Park has
historically limited the ability to accommodate
the many willing volunteers and interns who offer
their services each year. If you are interested
in any such opportunities, please contact GCFI
via e-mail and we will advise you of any current
openings. Thank you for your desire to give something
back to one of the crown jewels of the National
Park System!
